Harvest Limits on Oyster beds ordered Empty
PostSubject: Harvest Limits on Oyster beds ordered   Harvest Limits on Oyster beds ordered EmptyFri Jan 14, 2011 7:57 pm

By Tom Scherberger, Sentinel Tampa/St. Petersburg Bureau, September 28, 1985
Fearing that an influx of beleaguered Apalachicola oystermen could quickly deplete other North Florida oyster beds and spark violent competition, the Florida Marine Fisheries Commission on Friday called for a 90-day emergency limit on harvesting in seven counties. The commission order, which must be approved by the governor and Cabinet, would limit oystermen to 5 bushels per boat per day in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties and 20 bushels per boat per day in Wakulla, Dixie and Levy counties.
